Wooden Coasters are still alive!

I thought that wooden roller coasters had there time and that time had passed. Evidently I was wrong. Six Flags, St. Louis will be adding a wooden roller coaster in `08 to expand its coaster count to eight.

The first American roller coaster (wooden of course), built in 1872, was not built to thrill people but to transport coal down a mountain. A year later the coal mines were abandoned and the train started transporting people. Thus, the birth of the first American roller coaster. The railway offered spectacular views for visitors to see. The railway became a large Nineteenth Century tourist attraction and people came from all over to be thrilled. Sadly, all runs were cancelled in 1929.

Far from the first American roller coaster, this new ride will start out with a stomach-churning 80-foot drop as the ride takes a 90-degree left turn and another 55-foot drop. The 2,700-foot ride hits speeds of 50 mph. It has 16 hills and multiple high-banked turns at up to 67-degree angles.

Not being a big fan of wooden roller coasters, I think I may have to take a trip out to Six Flags, St. Louis and take a ride on a 21st century wooden roller coaster.

Incredible Birds

I love being one with nature. Unfortunately, I live in the city and rarely get to venture out into the wilderness, so I tend to watch a lot of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and TLC. Not to long ago, I was watching Discovery Channel and they were talking about "Birds of Paradise." These birds were the most incredibly beautiful and bizarre creatures I have ever seen.

The episode was titled Planet Earth: Jungles: Birds of Paradise. These "birds of paradise" had vibriant colors, intrinsic feathers, and outlandish mating dances. The dances are what actually intrigued me, specifically the Western Parotia. This bird would wrap it's wings around it's body in a manner that resembled a dress and dance like a ballerina. Very interesting and worth watching!!

Everything's Not Always Big in Texas

Being that I am from Texas, football has a special place in my heart. And we all know that Texas has a reputation for it's high school football and having all things big. But did you know that there is "little" football in Texas? By "little" football I am referring to 6-Man football.

6-man football is very interesting to watch. The pace of the game is very fast and it isn't uncommon to see 80 or 90 points scored on one side of the game. Which makes sense when you look at what is really going on. You only have 6 guys on the field and everyone is an eligible reciever and the fields are only 80 yards long. Since it is easier to score, there is a mercy rule; if one team is leading by 45 points at halftime or anytime there after the game is over.



Just like 11-man football, when a touchdown is scored the scoring team then has a decision to make; kick a field goal or run another play, however due to the difficulty of kicking a field goal, the point after kick is worth 2 points and a conversion is worth 1 point. Likewise a field goal is worth 4 points.

This games can be a lot of fun to watch. So if you are ever in Texas and looking for something to do, check out a local 6-man football game.

Coincidence?

So, I was sitting at my desk working harder than any human should work, when a coworker sends me an email. I instantly got excited because I thought the email was a request for more of my services. I sadly realized that the email did not contain work but a silly picture. If you can't see through the BS, I'll fill you in. I wasn't working all that hard and I was glad to see the email did not contain work but quite possibly the best picture I have ever seen.

I could not believe my eyes, was this real or did someone have some fun with photoshop? Skeptical, I went to the West Virginia University football website and looked at the roster and there they were, 92 - Johnny Dingle and 93 - Scooter Berry.

I know what your thinking, who names their child "Scooter?" I instantly thought - Cooter - "this guy must be from Alabama or Mississippi." After furter research, I found that he hails from North Babylon, New York, standing 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing in at 285 pounds. Which means that Scooter is the coolest name I have ever heard in my life!! You da man Scooter!!

Electifying

University of Florida student was tasered and arrested after trying to ask John Kerry about the 2004 election and other subjects during a campus forum. Andrew Meyer, 21, was pulled away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President George W. Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University. As Kerry told the audience he will answer the student's "very important question," Meyer yelled at the officers to release him, crying out, "Don't Tase me, bro," just before he was tased. GMAT experience

So I took the GMAT today.....it was a bit more challenging than I expected. What does the GMAT prove anyway? Is it that you can take a test with a time limit? I tend to get a nervous when I know I have a time limit, causing speratic thought. All I want to do is get into an MBA program, make the grade, and get a piece of paper that states I completed a program. Because that is all college really is, proof that you can learn! Needless to say I did not score as high I thought I could. Now we will see if I get into the program that I want.

Well John Did It

Well, I am brand new to the blog world, but how hard can it be, John does it. The thing is I am starting this blog because a friend of mine (hint: his name starts with a J) has a couple of blogs and I thought "why don't I start a blog?" So here I am, raring to tell the world what I think. Not that anyone really cares what I think, but why does anyone really publish anything in the first place - because they can. I guess we will see where this blog leads. All I can hope is that this blog will inspire someone else to start a blog, like a contagious disease.
